Maurten Drink Mix 160 is a carbohydrate sports drink developed for endurance training and racing. Each individual 42 g sachet provides 40 g of carbohydrates and approximately 160 calories when mixed with 500 ml of water.
Using Maurten’s patented Hydrogel Technology, the drink remains liquid before consumption and forms a hydrogel when it comes into contact with the acidity of the stomach. The hydrogel encapsulates the carbohydrates and carries them through the stomach for absorption in the intestine.
Drink Mix 160 is an isotonic sports drink designed particularly for longer, lower-intensity endurance sessions. It can also be used before exercise for carbohydrate preloading or after training to help replenish carbohydrate stores.

Hydrogel Technology
Maurten Drink Mix is different from a conventional sports drink. Once consumed, it reacts with the acidity of the stomach and forms a hydrogel that encapsulates the carbohydrates.
This technology is designed to carry the carbohydrates through the stomach to the intestine, where they can be absorbed and used as fuel. The hydrogel structure also helps reduce the sensation of liquid moving or sloshing in the stomach during exercise.
Key Ingredients
Maurten Drink Mix 160 contains only six ingredients:
- Maltodextrin
- Fructose
- Sodium alginate
- Pectin
- Sodium bicarbonate
- Salt
The formula contains no added flavours, colours, preservatives or sweeteners.
Maurten states that Drink Mix is made using ingredients that are vegan and certified free from common allergens. However, the finished product is not certified vegan or gluten-free.
Suggested Use
Mix one complete 42 g sachet with exactly 500 ml of clean water.
For correct preparation:
- Fill a clean bottle with 500 ml of water.
- Pour the entire sachet into the bottle on top of the water.
- Shake vigorously until completely dissolved, with no powder or lumps remaining.
- Consume before, during or after exercise according to your individual fuelling strategy.
For optimal mixing, Maurten recommends using water containing no more than 80 mg of calcium per litre. Do not divide the sachet or significantly alter the recommended water quantity, as this may affect hydrogel formation.
Test the product and your complete fuelling strategy during training before using it during an important event.
Important Information
Consume the prepared drink within 24 hours. Refrigerate if it is prepared in advance and do not heat above 60°C.
Store the unopened sachet at room temperature between 10°C and 30°C in a dry place.
Avoid mixing additional electrolyte products directly into Drink Mix, as minerals such as magnesium, potassium and calcium may interfere with the intended hydrogel structure.
